My Oral Preliminary Exam

5 December 2000

My exam was at 8am on Tuesday morning. That was the only day possible for my committee until the following semester. There was a colloquium that afternoon, Alfred taught until 2pm, and Jonathan and Jay had to teach at 11am, so the only 3 hour slot available was 8am to 11am.

Alfred was maybe ten minutes late, so we got off to a slow start. I was in there for two and a half mildly painful hours. However, at the end, I passed. Jason had come down from Phoenix that morning, and brought down a couple of boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. People brought me exotic sodas, sparkling cider, and a pint of ice cream. Those are a bunch of good friends.

After the exam, we wandered to Zachary's Pizza for lunch.

After that, we had to get moving on filming Christmas Skits. So we took Terry's truck out past the Desert Museum to film the EARTH LANDER sequence. Rachel got some good "making of" photos from her spot in the back seat as Jason hung out of the passenger window to film the truck behind us.

Later that night we were filming the "Orals Cheating Techniques" skit, and I had to take some photos of the pizza that BlackJack made for us with the Mars symbol on it in pepperoni.
